Dorothea Volkart Nordahl
Dorothea Volkart Nordahl, born on August 26, 1947, in Bülach, Switzerland, is a distinguished visual and textile artist based in Son, Norway. She completed her architectural studies in Zürich in 1969 and subsequently moved to Norway, where she established her own studio in Son the same year.
Nordahl’s artistic oeuvre encompasses a variety of materials and techniques, reflecting her architectural background and innovative approach to textile art. Her notable works include the tapestry “M.T.T.” (1985), crafted from sisal, cotton, artificial silk, and adorned with feathers from capercaillie, black grouse, and peacock, as well as lacquered aluminum tubes. This piece was commissioned for Det Norske Teatret’s new building in Oslo.
In addition to her artistic practice, Nordahl has contributed to the art community through various roles, including serving as chair of the Akershus Visual Artists Association.
Her works are featured in both public and private collections, and she has participated in numerous exhibitions, such as the Østlandsutstillingen in 1980 and the Nordic Textile Triennial in 1983.
Nordahl continues to live and work in Son, Norway, where she remains an active figure in the art community.
