Kerstin Olsson

Kerstin Olsson (1949–2003) was a Norwegian textile artist renowned for her innovative contributions to tapestry art. Born in Oslo, she pursued formal education at the Oslo Husflidsskole from 1967 to 1969 and further honed her skills at the Statens Håndverks- og Kunstindustriskole, specializing in textiles between 1969 and 1973. Following her studies, Olsson worked as an assistant to esteemed textile artist Synnøve Anker Aurdal from 1973 to 1980, a period that significantly influenced her artistic development.

Olsson’s artistic oeuvre is characterized by a profound exploration of texture and form, often employing traditional weaving techniques to create contemporary expressions. Her works have been featured in various exhibitions, including solo showcases at venues such as Galleri Helga in Kongsvinger in 1982. Additionally, she participated in collective exhibitions like the Autumn Exhibition in 1982 and 1983, and the Spring Exhibition at the Young Artists Society in 1980.

Throughout her career, Olsson received several accolades, including the third prize in the Nordic Textile Printing competition in 1972. Her works are part of esteemed collections, such as those of the Forsvarets overkommando in Oslo and the Oslo Municipality’s art collections.
