Molle Cecilie Major
Molle-Cecilie Major (1924–2008) was a distinguished Norwegian textile artist renowned for her abstract representations of nature, which often drew inspiration from intricate details such as rock formations, tree trunks, and moss-covered cliffs. She translated these observations into textiles, employing techniques like watercolor and pastel to develop her designs. Major’s work is characterized by a restrained color palette and the incorporation of diverse textures achieved through various weaving methods and fiber thicknesses. Notable pieces include Steinlav (1969), Muscus (1970), Vindfall (1974), and Skrent (1976), many of which utilized plant-based dyes.
Her contributions to textile art have been recognized in several publications, including a dedicated monograph that highlights her extensive and vibrant body of work. Major’s textiles have been featured in various exhibitions and are part of numerous collections, reflecting her significant impact on Norwegian textile art.
