Ragnhild Monsen

1948 –

Ragnhild Monsen (b. 1948) is a Norwegian textile artist celebrated for her innovative handwoven tapestries and textile objects that blend traditional techniques with contemporary themes. Her works often draw inspiration from nature and human experiences, characterized by vibrant colors and dynamic forms.

Education and Early Career

Monsen graduated from the National College of Art and Design Teachers in Oslo (1973–1976). Between 1976 and 1980, she served as an assistant to renowned textile artist Synnøve Anker Aurdal, a period that significantly influenced her artistic development.

Artistic Practice

Specializing in large-format tapestries, Monsen employs traditional weaving techniques to create abstract and figurative compositions. Her works often explore psychological and emotional states, utilizing a rich palette and intricate patterns to evoke depth and movement.
