Sidsel Flagstad

Sidsel Flagstad (b. January 30, 1946, Løten, Norway) is a Norwegian textile artist renowned for her innovative tapestry works that blend traditional techniques with contemporary themes.

Education and Early Career

Flagstad pursued her education in textile arts through various institutions:

  • Elverum Folk High School (1967): Completed a course in tapestry techniques.
  • Elverum Teachers’ College (1967–68): Studied general education.
  • Statens lærerskole i forming, Notodden (1969–71): Specialized in drawing and textiles.
  • Statens Håndverks- og Kunstindustriskole (1973–75): Served as a guest student under Gert Jynge, E.M. Johansen, and E. Weiglin, focusing on chemical yarn dyeing.
  • Statens lærerskole i forming, Oslo (1975–76): Furthered her studies under Sunniva Lønning.

  • Den norske Creditbank: Created tapestries for branches in Kongsvinger, Kongsberg, and Moss.
  • Løiten Almenning’s Administration Building: Designed and executed a large-scale tapestry installation.
  • Toneheim Folk High School: Produced a series of textile works for the institution.
  • Løten Nursing Home and Kongsvinger Hospital: Contributed tapestries enhancing the aesthetic environment of these healthcare facilities.
